Bashar Al-Hroub (1978-) is a Palestinian artist and academic , born in Jerusalem . He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from An-Najah National University in 2001, and holds a Master’s degree in Contemporary Art from the Winchester School of Art at the University of Southampton in Britain. 4D Foundation Scholarship In 2010, he participated in many local and international festivals and a number of artistic residencies in Arab and European countries. He has works and collections in many museums around the world.
He won the first prize (Grand Prize) at the fifteenth session of the Asian Art Biennale in Bangladesh in 2012 and was the first Palestinian to receive it.
His artistic vision
Working with a variety of media including photography, video installation, drawing and paintings, Al-Hroub's work directly addresses the debate over place. He began to engage in an inquiry into the self using the body as a signifier, dealing with personal vulnerability and the experience of existential anxiety strongly linked to issues such as religion and nationalism. Conflict and identity building. Moreover, he searches for meaning, not in the individual sign, but in the context of exile and fragmentation, and he believes that tales and myths constituted an important source for creating his imaginary world, which led him to study art and which played an important role in refining his personality and opening him up to understanding the worlds of the arts.
He also believes that the shock and tension that art creates is important because art does not only present aesthetics in the traditional sense and achieve a state of relaxation and calm. Rather, he sees the role of art as raising issues that we naturally try not to see and deliberately not see. Art is the mirror of the subconscious.
