Information

Nasser Khader, also known as Naser Khader in Danish, was born on July 1, 1963, in Damascus, Syria, to a Palestinian father and a Syrian mother. He has been a member of the Danish Parliament and gained prominence as the founder and leader of the New Alliance Party (Ny Alliance), established on May 7, 2007. Prior to his involvement with the New Alliance Party, he served as a member of parliament for the Radical Left Party (Det Radikale Venstre).

The New Alliance Party faced disappointing results in the 2007 elections, leading to a name change to the Liberal Alliance on August 27, 2008. In January 2009, Nasser Khader relinquished his leadership of the party and briefly became an independent member of the Danish Parliament before aligning himself with the conservative People's Party.

Khader's stance on Islam garnered attention, as he supported the controversial caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad and proposed legislation to ban the niqab worn by some Muslim women, advocating for penalties against violators. However, his proposal was met with opposition, with Integration Minister Berthe Gunn cautioning against interference in personal attire and imposing punishments based on it. Khader advocated for peaceful coexistence between democracy and Islam.

In response to the crisis stemming from the cartoons, Khader founded a movement called Moderate Muslims, later renamed the Democratic Muslim Association. His positions supporting the caricatures and denouncing campaigns by Muslim leaders against Denmark stirred controversy within the Muslim community. Khader asserted his identity as a democrat and Dane before his religious affiliation and advocated against Islamic law wherever it existed.
